The extraordinary importance and impact of manufacturing in the Dayton region was the focus of a news conference and press tour held on "Manufacturing Day," October 4, 2013. The event was held at GEMCITY Engineering and Manufacturing, 401 Leo Street. More than 112,000 Dayton-area workers are employed by nearly 2,600 manufacturing enterprises, contributing $5.6 billion in annual payroll to the regional economy. Manufacturing wages are nine percent higher than Ohio's economy-wide average. Manufacturing Day also features dozens of open houses held by area manufacturers, enterprises and related education/training organizations. The Dayton Region Manufacturers Association provides programming, education, workforce development initiatives and networking opportunities for members serving the aerospace, agricultural, medical, construction, defense and other markets.
